What is a microchip?
A microchip is a small, electronic chip enclosed in a glass cylinder that is about the same size as a grain of rice. It is injected under the skin using a hypodermic needle.

It is no more painful than a typical injection, although the needle is slightly larger than those used for injection. No surgery or anesthesia is required—a microchip can be implanted during a routine veterinary office visit.

Pacific Paws has partnered with HomeAgain, a trusted microchip, helping reunite over 3 million pets with their owners.

How do I know when my pet is ready?
Pets should have their spay or neuter before reaching adulthood. Cats and small to medium-sized dogs may have the procedure at about 6 months old.
However, large and extra-large-breed dogs may need to wait until they are 9 months to almost a year old, or more. Weight, physical development, and overall health will ultimately help us decide when the time is right.

Should I get my pet microchipped?
The best reason to have your animals microchipped is the improved chance that you’ll find your pet. The microchipping process is quick and easy.
